Character or Actions

An honest witness tells the truth, but a false witness tells lies. (Proverbs 12:17)

‘Duh!’ that was my initial reaction to the statement of the obvious. But a deeper understanding came along as I pondered. The honest man tells the truth because he is honest. The lies of the false witness likewise.
Our actions are the result of our character! We often focus attention on isolated acts (especially the public ones) rather than on our character. But we ultimately live up (or down) to our character. It is more important to God and can be seen in our hearts – where He looks.

Next time you do stock taking, check your character, not merely your actions.

Prayer:
Lord please help me focus on building character than on isolated acts.
